The Pekin was brought from China to Europe in 1866. They were originally described as a Bantam version of the Cochin but it was later decided that there were too many differences between the breeds for this description to continue. The Pekin is a true Bantam. There is no large fowl version. Pekins are pretty and good natured little birds. Children adore them as do breeders and showmen.
