The origin of the Silkie is uncertain but it's thought to have been developed in China, Japan or India, arriving in Europe around the beginning of the 19th Century. The feathers are soft, silky and more like hair because they have no webbing. Needing little space the Silkie is easily contained as it doesn't fly. Having a calm, friendly and trusting manner, Silkies make excellent mothers.
