At Chalk Hill Farm we rear five different types of hybrid laying hens. They have been developed from a mix of breeds to ensure maximum egg production. From eight weeks of age we rear them in large grass pens as this method produces a more vigorous and hardy bird.

Our hybrids are the perfect choice for the first time poultry keeper as they're robust and easy to care for, soon becoming tame and easy to handle. They adapt well to a garden environment as they're equally happy roaming free or kept enclosed in a run.

All our hybrid birds will lay between 280 and 300 eggs in their first year, giving a steady supply of eggs through the winter months. Our hybrids are vaccinated against Coccidiosis, Mycoplasma, Mareks Disease and Infectious Bronchitis. They are also regularly wormed.

Egg colour: Bluebelle, Speckledy and Sussex Star: Tinted. Bovans Nera and Columbian Blacktail: Brown.
