The Derbyshire Redcap originated in the Derbyshire and Pennine regions. One of our oldest dual-purpose utility breeds it's thought to have been developed from several breeds including the Hamburg and Old English Pheasant Fowl. The Redcap name comes from the breed's exceptional comb. Hens are non-sitters but lay a large number of good-size eggs. The breed is most suited to a free range environment as they're good foragers.
