ARAUCANA
Origin: Named after the Arauca Indians of Chile, these birds were introduced into Europe in the early 1900s. The true Lavender Araucana was created by George Malcolm in Scotland in the 1930s. Araucanas lay a blue or green egg, unique in that the colour permeates throughout the entire shell.
Characteristics: Araucanas are very active and good egg layers. The chicks are vigorous and mature very quickly. They will go broody and make very good mothers. They are happy to be penned but require regular moving as they thrive on grass.

Hatching eggs can also be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, packed in purpose made polystyrene boxes at the postage cost of £6 per half dozen.
