Brahma
The name Brahma is taken from the river Brahmaputra in India. However, it is now thought that these birds were created in America from Large, Feather legged birds imported from China in the 1840s known as Shanghais (Cochins). These were crossed with a Malay type bird from India, which introduced the pea-comb. The Brahma arrived in England in the 1850s.
Brahmas are Majestic, docile birds who make good reliable mothers and can sit on a large number of eggs due to their size. They are not active flyers and therefore easily contained. They prefer dry conditions because of they’re heavily feathered feet.
