Origin: originated in Hamburg by Oskar Vorwerk in 1900, the aim was to provide a middle-weight economical utility fowl.

Characteristics: Particularly suited to smallholdings and farmyards as they are excellent foragers, small eaters and quick maturing.

Hatching eggs can also be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, packed in purpose made polystyrene boxes at the postage cost of £6 per half dozen.
