WELSUMMER

Origin: Developed near the town of Welsum in Holland using a mixture of breeds, these birds were brought to England in the 1920s. Its special feature is it’s large, dark brown egg, sometimes speckled which makes it a very popular breed.

Characteristics: Heaviest of the light breeds, it is alert and active and thrives well in a free range environment.

Hatching eggs can also be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, packed in purpose made polystyrene boxes at the postage cost of £6 per half dozen.
